The period between the end of the Roman Empire in Britain and the Norman Conquest (1066) is an incredibly rich one. There were many kings and kingdoms, cultural influences and languages. The fantasy world of Games of Thrones almost looks sparse compared to early medieval Britain.

Before I began reading about the Anglo-Saxons I thought of them as a fresh start in English history. Sort of like a year dot. Since then I’ve learnt that they also had a relationship with the past that came before them. That fascinates me and I hope to get something up about that on this website soon.

I hope that you will find something of use on this website. If you’d like to share a link to your early medieval history website, please leave a comment.
